Research grants to further the future of broadcasting

NAB research grants

NAB is the leading advocate representing the interests of radio and television stations before Congress, the Administration, the courts and the public. Initiating and supporting the creation of new research to further the future of the broadcast industry is a critical role of the association.

To that end, NAB is offering $5,000 in research grants to academics, graduate students and senior undergraduates undertaking studies to further the broadcast industry. Grant consideration is given to research proposals focusing on economic business, social or policy issues important to U.S. radio and television stations.

Act now – the entry period closes on October 1, 2010.

Nomadic Tendencies Film Festival in town, Sept 3-12

The Nomadic Tendencies Film Festival 2010

Nomadic Tendencies Film Festival screens at 6 venues in and around St Petersburg.

Dates: Friday, Sept 3 – Sunday, Sept 12

Where: Muvico Baywalk 20, USF Campus Activities Center, The Dali Museum, ArtOn! Central (on the 600 block in Downtown St Pete), Beach Theatre and the Blueberry Patch.

Why: To bring independent films from around the world to local audiences focusing on independent voices by new and emerging filmmakers.

Daily FREE Filmmaker & Film Lover Brunches will be held throughout the festival dates at ArtOn! Central at 645 Central Ave Unit 8. The brunches are free and open to all filmmakers and film lovers. This is a casual, easy-going gather of like-minded creative types. In St Pete, the connection between the arts in relation to film creation does not see to exist or flourish. Artists of all mediums are welcome this event – make-up artists, costume designers, graphic designers, actors, actresses, screenwriters, directors, set designers, painters, musicians, theater majors, journalists, photographers, etc.

Film is a collaboration of all the arts put together to create one final product. Our goal is to create a space where artists of all mediums can connect and build relationships with new and emerging filmmakers – whether they be independent or student filmmakers – and begin to build their film resumes. The best way to learn how to make films is by making them. This is a wonderful opportunity to find out what others are doing, how they are going about it and if they are looking for a crew. Remember, it’s casual. These relationships happen naturally through getting to know each other. We don’t do hard sells. We do film. So we are putting on these brunches for those who also love film. No experience is necessary… just a love a film. Please share this information with your students.

For those interested in volunteering, please visit meetup.com/Nomadic-Tendencies for more information or call 352-942-4803.

We are offering $500 prize for the winning video!  The winning individual(s) will receive credit and national recognition for their work.
